Yes — the full six-phase loop is free to download and play, and so are naming your horse and sharing highlight clips. An optional one-time PRO unlock adds the deeper horse customization and unlimited retries (see below). There are no ads and no subscription.
No. Load Up teaches you to read a horse the way a real handler does — ears, head height and breath — and the gentle press-and-release mechanic usually clicks within a load or two.
iPhone and iPad on iOS 17 or later. The app is fully localized in English and 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese) — it follows your device language on first launch, and you can switch any time in Settings → Language.
Press and hold to ask the horse forward, and watch its CALM meter and body language. Let go the instant its window opens for a perfect, gentle step. Time your releases well and you build a gentle combo, which the score rewards.
The horse tells you its state before it acts. Forward ears and a lowered head mean it's ready to step; pinned ears, a raised head and quick breath mean ease off. Reading that window is the whole skill.
You asked for too much, too fast — exactly like a real horse. Stop pulling, let it settle, and ask again when its body language opens up. With the problem loader (Lei Ting) especially, patience beats force every time.
When a horse pulls back, easing off and letting it settle restores some calm. Fighting it only makes the next ask harder — stepping back is a tool, not a failure.
The veteran (Lao Li, calm and forgiving), the greenie (Xiao Yan, young and spooky), and the problem loader (Lei Ting, rears at the smallest mistake). There's no difficulty slider — the horse's personality is the difficulty.
Ranch day (baseline), horse show running late (crowd + clock), vet emergency (an anxious horse), and open field (no wall to back against). Each stacks its own modifiers on the horse you picked.
You drive. The transport phase asks you to keep the rig balanced through hard stops, potholes and oncoming traffic — then you unload with the same gentle read-and-release, and get a star score for staying calm and efficient.
It rewards being gentle and efficient: calm kept high, smooth combos, no rears or balks, a steady drive, and a quick run. Three stars means you did all of it kindly.
A lot. Beyond your horse's coat, you can set custom coat and point colors, face markings, leg socks, coat patterns (pinto, appaloosa, roan, dapple), body size and build, mane and tail length, and ears — all with a live preview. Name your horse and save a whole stable of them. There are also light and dark themes and a few background-music styles. A handful of preset coats, naming, and clip sharing are free; the deeper customization and the multi-horse stable are part of PRO.
It's a one-time, non-consumable purchase — yours permanently, nothing auto-renews, and no ads. PRO unlocks every horse coat, the full customization (custom colors, markings, socks, patterns, body and build, mane and tail), a multi-horse stable, and unlimited retries. The whole six-phase game is fully playable without it.
